Once upon a time, there was a prince called Jack. You might think this isn’t a good beginning for our horror story, but as you all know, not everything is what it seems… Jack lived in a castle near a big forest with his lovely wife Jessica. In his castle, there were dozens of servants who made his life like heaven on earth. They were not slaves because Jack wanted everybody in his country to be equal.
But lately some strange things were going on in the castle … One night, the horses had broken out because some doors appeared to be open without a reason. But no one really cared and Jack wasn’t angry about it because the groundskeeper was an elderly man and it’s only human for someone to forget something when he grows older. Jack didn’t want to fire the poor guy because he had served his father for a long time and he had become part of the family.
But on a certain night Jack really started to get suspicious. Every night he heard the same door opening and closing followed by footsteps that faded away around midnight. There was a storm and Jessica started to get worried. She asked Jack to check the hallway because she thought she had heard something fall. He thought it was a thunderclap, but because he loves his wife, he got out of his bed to see what was going on. When he opened the door, he noticed his two loyal dogs lying down in front of his door.
But then he saw the urn with the ashes of his father lying on the floor, shattered into pieces. Suddenly, his eyes fell on some wet footprints, pointing away from the bedroom. He went out and investigated where they were going. The marks led him downstairs to the kitchen door, but when he opened the door, the footprints stopped.
He had been away for a while, but as he had not found another clue, he went back to his wife to assure her that everything was ok. But when he returned, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing …
On the top of his antique spearheads, next to his door, he found the heads of his two dogs. They were slaughtered. The blood dropped out of their necks. But he didn’t see any other part of their bodies. He was very sad en fell down on his knees.
Then he realised that his wife Jessica was still alone in the bedroom. He had a bad feeling about the situation and he ran to the door. The door seemed to be closed. He forced his way into the bedroom but his wife had disappeared. The only thing he found was her bloody finger with their wedding-ring still left on it.
Nobody has ever seen her again. Every night the footsteps came back in the castle, but no intruder was ever caught. After a while, Jack couldn’t tell if the noises were real or only were present in his imagination. No one would ever know …
